ETHEL KOGER BECKHAM K-8 CENTER - NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL
ETHEL KOGER BECKHAM K-8 CENTER - NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL
Ethel Koger Beckham is one of the most respected elementary schools in the Miami Dade School District and for many years there has been a high parent demand for a conversion to a K-8 Facility. This project is for a new 380 student middle school and site improvements to the existing elementary school. The program includes 13 classrooms, 2 science labs, computer lab, foreign language lab, multi-purpose room, offices and covered patios. Budget dictated that the school be limited to one story; the remaining available school property necessitated a linear solution on the northern edge of the property adjacent to a park. The program spaces are organized on either side of an exterior, covered corridor. The canopy is located at an eighteen feet height and allows for light to filter in, as well as air movement. The middle school is connected via canopies to the elementary school allowing a connection to the existing dining hall.
